TOEFL Books & Resources
Recommended preparation materials for the TOEFL iBT. Official ETS materials are the primary source for authentic practice.
Official materials
Start with ETS's current preparation hub, sample test, and updated practice tests. Use them to learn the live interface, establish a baseline, check progress, and calibrate timing against the adaptive test. Because the format changed on January 21, 2026, confirm that any resource explicitly covers the updated TOEFL iBT.
Open official ETS preparation resources ↗Supplementary resources
Third-party books and online resources can add practice volume for vocabulary, grammar, reading fluency, listening accuracy, sentence building, email writing, academic discussion responses, repetition, and interview-style speaking. Cross-check every claimed TOEFL task against current ETS materials; resources based on retired Writing or four-task Speaking formats are not current.
Format fit
A current resource should show adaptive Reading and Listening; the present Writing tasks (Build a Sentence, Write an Email, and Write for an Academic Discussion); the present Speaking tasks (Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview); the absence of a scheduled break; and the 1–6 score scale. Reject materials built around old passage counts or retired Writing and Speaking formats.
